From Monday, October 4 through Sunday, October 10, Balance Bar representatives took over Boston, handing out samples and coupons while searching the streets for those willing to get on camera and offer their deepest, darkest nutrition secrets.
During this Beantown adventure, Balance Bar partnered with Boston radio station WXLO to garner media attention and increase promotion awareness. This partnership included an interview with Gene & Joyce Daoust, the Balance Bar nutrition experts, an on-air version of the Balance nutrition contest with the selection of one winner a day, a WXLO website promotion of the contest, including a showcase of in-market videos, an article and a banner ad on the special features section and two WXLO live appearances at Balance Bar sampling locations.
Throughout the week, sampling stations were set up and nutrition confession videos were filmed at a variety of locations, including the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) North Station location, Downtown Crossing location and State Street location; the Shaw’s Supermarket location at Fenway and Prudential Center; the Stop & Shop Supermarket location at Roxbury Crossing and the South Bay Center; the Faneuil Hall Marketplace and the Topsfield Fair.
For those that shared their nutrition confessions on video, they would be put in the running for a chance at $430.30 and a year’s supply of Balance Bars. After the week in Boston was completed, these videos were uploaded to the Balance Bar Facebook page (www.facebook.com/balancebar) and viewers could then vote on who they thought gave the best confession.
Overall, the Balance Bar promotion – the first of more to come – was a success. Thousands of Bostonians stopped by to receive samples and 114 of them were willing to offer up their nutrition confessions. We would like to congratulate the winners of the inaugural Nutrition Confessions Contest: Amanda, contestant 204, Pollyana, contestant 194 and Amanda, contestant 130. We hope you enjoy your $430.30 and the year’s supply of Balance Bars! And remember: enjoy what keeps you going.
