40-30-30 represents the balanced caloric ratio contained in our products. Specifically, this means that 40% of calories come from carbohydrates, 30% from protein and 30% from dietary fat. This ratio provides your body with the fuel it needs for lasting, healthy energy. Learn more here.
Ready for a little math? Okay, here we go:
- Grams of Protein x 4 = Calories from Protein / Total Calories x 100 = Percent of Calories from Protein (round to the nearest multiple of 5)
- Grams of Fat x 9 = Calories from Fat / Total Calories x 100 = Percent of Calories from Fat (round to the nearest multiple of 5)
- 100 – Percent of Calories from Protein – Percent of Calories from Fat = Percent of Calories from Carbohydrates
Want an example? Let's look at Original Yogurt Honey Peanut. First, the nutrition values we need:
- Protein = 15g
- Fat = 7g
- Total Calories = 200
Now for the math:
- 15g x 4 = 60 calories / 200 calories = .30 x 100 = 30% calories from protein (no rounding necessary)
- 7g x 9 = 63 calories / 200 calories = .315 x 100 = 31.5% calories from fat, which rounds to 30%
- 100 – 30 – 30 = 40% calories from carbohydrates
As you can see, there is a tolerated threshold for rounding. It's kind of fun, isn't it? Go ahead, you know you want to check that candy bar you've been thinking about.
All of our Balance Bars are great-tasting 40-30-30 snacks!
Nutritional information can be found on the seam of each bar wrapper, as well as on the bottom of each product display box. You can also find it on our site in the Nutrition and Varieties sections – each flavor has its own nutrition facts available.
All of our Dark, Original, Gold, Café and BARE Balance Bar products contain 13-15g of protein per bar to keep you full and energized. That's around 30% of your recommended daily intake. Calories per bar in these lines range from 180-210.
We are proud to say that all of our Balance Bar products are certified kosher dairy (as noted with the OU-D symbol on our packaging) by OU Kosher.
Let's get scientific for a second. Glycemic Index (GI) is a measure of the effect of carbohydrates on blood sugar levels. Carbohydrates that break down quickly during digestion release glucose (sugar) rapidly into the bloodstream and have a high GI, while carbohydrates that break down more slowly release glucose more gradually into the bloodstream and have a low GI. A lower GI (approximately 55 or less) suggests slower rates of digestion and absorption of the foods' carbohydrates.
What does that mean to you? Simply put, Balance Bar products will provide lasting, sustained energy.
Total carbohydrates represent the actual amount of carbs contained in a product.
Net carbohydrates are calculated by taking the total number of carbohydrates and subtracting fiber and sugar alcohols. The number that is left represents the carbs that impact your blood sugar levels.
Yep, they sure do! It varies slightly by flavor so check the wrapper – but all of our bars contain 19 or more vitamins and minerals.
Yes! All of our bars are an excellent source of antioxidants. Specifically, our bars contain vitamins A (25%-50%), C (50%-100%) and E (50%-100%).
All milk-based ingredients used in our products come from dairy cows.
No, our products contain milk ingredients and/or honey, so they are not vegan.
Put on your science cap! Gluten is a kind of protein (a composite of the proteins gliadin and gluetenin) that tends to exist in wheat, barley and rye, among other carbohydrates. Gluten is insoluble in water, gives kneaded dough its elasticity, allows leavening and creates chewiness in baked products. Some people, particularly those with Celiac disease, have difficulty digesting gluten and therefore should try to avoid it.
Absolutely not! We worked hard to keep each bar free of trans fats and hydrogenated oils.
At the moment, no Balance Bar products have caffeine added as an individual ingredient. However, caffeine is present in the natural flavors we add to Mocha Chip, as well as in all of our bars that contain chocolate.
It's important to note that all of our products are produced on equipment that processes peanuts and tree nuts.
We also have several products that actually contain nuts in one form or another. Here's a list of our nutty products:

- Original Almond Brownie
- Original Honey Peanut
- Original Peanut Butter

Yes, all of our bars contain soy protein. Some bars contain soy lecithin, roasted soybeans and/or soybean oil.
Yes, all of our bars contain dairy in some form, whether it be butter, cream, nonfat milk, whey protein, casein or other milk proteins.
It's important to note that all of our products are produced in a facility that processes wheat.
Also, a few of our bars do contain wheat as an individual ingredient. These are our wheaty friends:

All of our bars EXCEPT our BARE bars contain one or more corn-based ingredient. Corn-based ingredients that we use include glucose syrup (also known as corn syrup), maltodextrin, dextrose and high maltose corn syrup.
It's just another name for corn syrup! This is a sweetener that is derived from corn, instead of from sugar cane.
Fractioned palm kernel oil is an ingredient we use in the yummy confectionary coating on our bars. To get technical, palm kernel oil can't be used as-is because it's a liquid oil and not a solid fat (which is what we need for our coatings). The process known as fractionation separates the liquid parts (or fractions) from the solid parts, but without using the hydrogenation process that produces trans fatty acids.
Essentially, fractioned palm kernel oil is our preferred fat source for confectionary coatings because it contains zero trans fat, unlike hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oils. See, you really do learn something new every day!
No way! Not one single bar contains MSG, and we plan to keep it that way.
Absolutely! Balance Bar products are healthy, nutritious snack foods for kids and adults alike. Just remember, as with all food, always eat in moderation.
You should keep your Balance Bar products in a cool, dry place.
We guarantee our products for 9-12 months from the time they are produced. For optimum flavor, we recommend that you consume the bars by the "Best When Used By" date found on the wrapper – we guarantee the product until that date.
Our products are designed for immediate consumption once opened, so we don't recommend keeping bars unwrapped for long periods of time. If you find that your local retailer has expired product, please notify that retailer's local store manager.
Currently, Balance Bar products are manufactured in Canada.
We want to make sure kids' privacy is protected at all times, so we follow the COPPA guidelines, which monitor how websites collect information from children under the age of thirteen.
