Let’s Talk Nutrition

Are all Balance Bars made with 40-30-30 balanced nutrition?

All of our Original, Gold and Dark Balance Bars are built with the 40-30-30 snacks nutrition principle. Balance bare bars still offer a great nutritional profile, but they are not based on the 40-30-30 principle!

Where can I find nutritional information for Balance Bar products?

You can spot our nutrition facts on the seam of each bar wrapper as well as on the bottom of each product display box.

You can also find it on this website – the specific nutritional information for each flavor is on its page in the products  section.

We think the numbers in those boxes stack up pretty well to the great taste in every box.

Does Balance Bar offer high protein or low calorie bars?

All of our Dark, Original and Gold Balance Bar products contain 13-15g of protein per bar to help keep you full and energized to take on today and tomorrow. That’s around 30% of your recommended daily intake. Calories per bar in these lines range from 180-210.

What does Low Glycemic Index mean?

Let’s get scientific for a second. Glycemic Index (GI) is a measure of the effect of carbohydrates on blood sugar levels.

A high GI is given to carbohydrates that break down quickly during digestion and release glucose (sugar) rapidly into the bloodstream.

Carbohydrates that breakdown more slowly and release glucose more gradually into the bloodstream have a low GI. A lower GI (40 or less) suggests slower rates of digestion and absorption of the foods’ carbohydrates.

So if we take off our lab coats, what does that mean for you? Simply put, Balance Bars that have a low Glycemic Index help to provide lasting, sustained energy without supplying the loads of sugar that you find in a typical candy bar.

Do all Balance Bars contain vitamins and minerals?

Yep, they sure do! It varies slightly by flavor so check the wrapper or the nutrition facts listed on each flavor’s product page.

Do all Balance Bars contain antioxidants?

All of our Original, Gold and Dark bars are an excellent source of antioxidants. Specifically, our bars contain vitamins A (25%–50%), C (50%–100%) and E (50%–100%).

Do Balance Bars contain trans fats?

Absolutely not!

We’re glad you asked, because we work hard to formulate each bar without trans fats. We like to think you celebrate our efforts with every bite.

Are Balance Bars vegetarian?

All of our bars are Vegetarian friendly!  However, we do source some ingredients from animals – including dairy proteins from cow’s milk, honey from bees and Vitamin D from lanolin in sheep’s wool.

Are there any animal products in Balance Bars?

All milk-based ingredients used in our products come from dairy cows.

Are Balance Bars vegan?

We offer two New options that are vegan, Balance bare Sweet & Spicy Nut and Balance bare Mixed Berry Nut.

Are Balance Bars certified kosher?

We are proud to say that all of our Balance Bar products are certified kosher dairy (as noted by the OU-D symbol on our packaging) by OU Kosher.

What is gluten?

Ready for a quick science class? (No pop quiz, we promise!)

Gluten is a kind of protein (a composite of the proteins gliadin and gluetenin – try saying those three times fast). It tends to exist in wheat, barley and rye, among other carbohydrates.

Gluten is insoluble in water, gives kneaded bread dough its elasticity, allows leavening and creates chewiness in baked products.

Some people, particularly those with Celiac disease, have difficulty digesting gluten and, therefore, should try to avoid it. You can find all our gluten-free bars on our products page.

Do Balance Bars contain wheat?

It's important to note that although all of our products are produced in a facility that processes wheat, the bars that are labeled as Gluten Free are certified by the Gluten Free Certification Organization (GFCO).

Also, a few of our bars do contain wheat as an individual ingredient. These are our wheat-packing bars:

• Original Cookie Dough
• Gold Chocolate Mint Cookie Crunch
• Gold Lemon Meringue Crunch
• Gold S'mores

Do Balance Bars contain nuts?

It’s important to note that all of our products are produced on equipment that processes peanuts and tree nuts.

We also have several products that actually contain nuts in one form or another. Here’s a list of our nutty products:
•  Dark Chocolate Coconut
•  Dark Chocolate Peanut
•  Original Yogurt Honey Peanut
•  Original Almond Brownie
•  Original Honey Peanut
•  Original Peanut Butter
•  Gold Caramel Nut Blast
•  Gold Chocolate Peanut Butter
•  bare Mixed Berry Nut
•  bare Sweet & Spicy Nut
•  bare Sea Salt Caramel

Do Balance Bars contain soy?

Many of our bars contain soy protein. Some bars contain soy lecithin, roasted soybeans and/or soybean oil.

All Balance bare bars are completely soy free!

Do Balance Bars contain dairy?

Many of our bars contain dairy in some form, whether it be butter, cream, nonfat milk, whey protein, casein or other milk proteins.

We offer two bars that do not contain dairy: bare Mixed Berry Nut and bare Sweet & Spicy Nut.

Do Balance Bars contain corn?

Our Original, Gold, Dark bars and Balance bare Sea Salt Caramel all contain at least one corn-based ingredient.

The corn-based ingredients we use include glucose syrup (also known as corn syrup), maltodextrin, dextrose and high maltose corn syrup.

What is glucose syrup?

It’s just another name for corn syrup! This is a sweetener derived from corn, instead of from sugar cane.

Do Balance Bars contain high fructose corn syrup (HFCS)?

They sure don’t!

Other Ingredients of Interest

Do Balance Bars contain caffeine?

Nope, right now there’s no Balance Bar that has caffeine as an individual ingredient.

However, caffeine is present in the natural flavors we add to Mocha Chip, as well as in all of our bars that contain chocolate.

What is fractioned palm kernel oil?

Fractioned palm kernel oil is an ingredient we use in the tasty confectionary coating on our bars.

To get technical, palm kernel oil can't be used as-is because it's a liquid oil and not a solid fat (which is what we need for our coatings). The process known as fractionation separates the liquid parts (or fractions) from the solid parts, but without using the hydrogenation process that produces trans fatty acids.

Essentially, fractioned palm kernel oil is our preferred fat source for confectionary coatings because it contains zero grams of trans fat, unlike partially hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oils.

See, you really can learn something new every day!

Do Balance Bars contain MSG?

No way! Not a single bar contains MSG, and we plan to keep it that way.

What’s the best way to store my Balance Bars?

You should keep your Balance Bars in a cool, dry place.

We think it’s a good idea to keep them near the front of your pantry, so you always see a good-for-you option when you poke around for a snack. Plus, keeping our bags stocked with an emergency Balance Bar has saved us more than once on our busiest days!

What’s the shelf life of Balance Bars?

We guarantee our products for 12 months from the time they are produced. For optimum flavor, we recommend that you eat the bars by the "Best When Used By" date found on the wrapper – we guarantee the product until that date.
