With summer in full swing, don’t let it pass you by without packing it with as many fun activities as possible. You can achieve multiple daily victories when you make a plan to include more summer fun and follow it. If you need a little boost to get or keep you going, try the following tips:
If your diet is slowing you down - change it.
Whenever I hear new clients complain about their lack of energy, the first thing I look at is their diet. When your diet is not balanced, blood sugar fluctuations could be the number one reason you barely have enough energy for work, much less adding and enjoying fun summer activities. A diet high in carbohydrate can cause blood sugar imbalances, which can trigger constant hunger, fatigue and mood swings. But diets too high in protein without adequate carbohydrate can result in brain fatigue, mood swings and poor concentration.
A balanced diet should include carbohydrate, protein and fat at each meal in the 40-30-30 ratio. The protein and healthy fat slows carbohydrate digestion and absorption, balancing blood sugar and eliminating hunger for 4-6 hours. Balanced meals help support muscle strength and keep your metabolism and energy levels high for enjoying summer activities.
Decide what summer activities you enjoy and schedule time for them.
Don’t just say you want to start hiking, biking, boating, playing tennis, softball, golf or whatever fun activity it is you enjoy then never get around to doing it. Decide what it is you want to do, schedule the time, adjust your routine and DO IT. It takes planning and a commitment to do more of anything, even the fun things.
Become mentally focused on fun.
Many people believe their lives are so full they find it hard to enjoy fun. Some of us have become almost too good at multi-tasking and forget the importance of fun. We work hard to be productive and efficient, but find it hard to enjoy life’s pleasures. Kevin, one of Gene’s best friends, is a top-selling, hard-charging salesman who always includes his “Power Hour.” That one hour a day is his time to recharge both mentally and physically, enabling him to fight through adversity, avoid stagnation and commit to what keeps him positive, inspired and eager to reach new goals. Make sure your “Power Hour” includes the activities you most enjoy.
So don’t miss out on all the fun that summer can offer. You can achieve multiple daily victories when you plan ahead and take the time to balance work with summer fun.
