Cool down with these fruity desserts

When you’re looking for a “cool down” treat during the summer, chances are you go right for the ice cream – it’s only natural! While ice cream is okay to enjoy in moderation, there are so many quick and easy desserts that are more nutritious and don’t leave you racked with guilt after eating them. Try one of these bright and fruity options the next time you’re in the mood for something cold and sweet.

Strawberry Mango Smoothie

It’s hard to believe something as sweet and delicious as a smoothie is actually good for you – but it really is! They’re perfect to enjoy after an outdoor workout, for breakfast paired with a Yogurt Honey Peanut Balance Bar or after dinner as a nutritious dessert!

This smoothie recipe is super simple and only takes five minutes to make. You can switch up the fruit combos any way you’d like and use the summer season to find your favorite flavor. With so many summer fruits, the possibilities are endless.

Blend 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries, 1 cup fresh or frozen mango chunks, ½ cup plain or vanilla yogurt and 4 ice cubes in a blender until mixture is smooth. Add a strawberry garnish and enjoy!

Cantaloupe Cooler

If you are an ice cream fanatic looking for a healthier option, it can be hard to find one.  Of course there’s fro-yo… but when you factor in the toppings, it might as well be ice cream.

The cantaloupe cooler is great because it’s a flavorful, natural dessert that you can feel good about eating. With its texture somewhere between a smoothie and a sorbet, it is perfect for impressing your friends at a summer get together. Try making it with cantaloupe, honeydew melon or layering both in a clear glass to play up the pretty colors of the each!

Place 2 cups of cubed cantaloupe, ½ tablespoon of honey, and ½ cup of water into a blender and purée on high speed until it is smooth. Pour the purée into a glass and garnish with a small slice of cantaloupe. Grab a spoon and enjoy this refreshing treat.

Dark Chocolate Pineapple Pops

You know we had to give you one recipe that includes chocolate because some of us can’t live without it. Right, Chocolate Craze Balance Bar lovers?

Chocolate-covered pineapple is a fun, summery twist on the classic chocolate-covered strawberries. By using dark instead of milk chocolate, you’ll cut the amount of sugar in half and add a richer flavor to the citrusy fruit. Not a big fan of pineapple? Try using peaches, oranges or kiwi instead!

Cut 1 inch pieces of fresh pineapple and place a skewer halfway through each piece. Set skewers on a baking sheet covered in parchment paper and put in the freezer for 10-15 min. Meanwhile, melt 1 ½ cup of dark baker’s chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Take the pineapple skewers out of the freezer, dip them into the melted chocolate and sprinkle coconut shavings on top of the chocolate. Place the tray of pineapple pops back in the freezer until the chocolate has hardened and they’re ready to serve.
