I'm Loving Greek Yogurt

And you should too. Most ordinary supermarket yogurt contains more sugar than a typical candy bar or they are full of artificial sweeteners.

I don’t recommend either of them. But I am recommending Greek yogurt.

Greek yogurt is thicker and creamier and a good source of calcium. It also supplies the live active cultures; L. Bulgaricus, S. Thermophilus and L. Acidophilus. These probiotic cultures help to naturally balance your digestive system. Greek yogurt also provides a much higher percentage of protein than other yogurt making it ideal to incorporate in the 40-30-30 balanced diet plan.

One cup of Greek yogurt (2% fat) supplies approximately 20 grams of protein, 8-9 grams of carbohydrate and 4 grams of fat. Simply add 17 grams of carbohydrate and a little more fat and you have a delicious 40-30-30 small meal or snack.

Here are a couple few of my favorites Greek yogurt recipes:

Mango Macadamia Greek Yogurt

  • 1 cup 2% Greek yogurt (plain)
  • 1/2 cup diced mango
  • 1 tsp. agave sweetener (Organic Blue Agave) (a low-glycemic natural sweetener)
  • 3 chopped macadamia nuts

Directions: Top Greek yogurt with mango, drizzle with agave syrup and sprinkle with nuts.

Strawberry Almond Greek Yogurt

  • 1 cup 2% Greek yogurt (plain)
  • 1 cup sliced fresh strawberries (organic)
  • 1 1/2 tsp. agave sweetener (Organic Blue Agave) (a low-glycemic natural sweetener)
  • 1 tbsp. slivered almonds

Directions: Top Greek yogurt with fresh, sliced strawberries, drizzle with agave syrup and sprinkle with nuts.

40-30-30 snacks can be quick and easy to make, but nothing can be easier than a Balance bar. Simply unwrap and enjoy.
