Refresh Your Spring Fitness Routine

This winter has not been easy! From extreme cold temperatures to ice and snow I think I'm not alone in wishing spring would come a little bit faster. The winter can put a big dent in your Balance plans; it’s hard to find the motivation to head to the gym or a new fitness class when it’s in the single digits outside.

Lucky for us, that’s all coming to an end (hopefully!). With spring right around the corner, there are many things you can do to refresh your fitness routine while also enjoying the warmer temperatures. Here are 3 fun ways to switch up your workouts for spring—after all you’ve been waiting for this time since the fall!

  • Run a local 5k. Even if you are not normally a runner, 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) is a great distance to tackle. Plus, with spring’s longer days, you’ll have extra time to train after work or on the weekends. The best part of 5ks is that the majority of them take place in parks, so you get the added benefit of enjoying nature right as the flowers and leaves begin blooming. You can raise money for a charity or participate in a fun run like the Color Run and bring your family along too!

  • Take your indoor workout outside. If you are lucky enough to have a backyard, you can take your workouts outside and enjoy the fresh air while exercising. With the endless amount of fitness apps now available (both free and paid), it’s very easy to take your smartphone or tablet outside and get your endorphin fix while enjoying that beautiful spring weather.

  • Tennis. One of my favorite sports to play in the spring is tennis. A lot of people don't realize that tennis is a full body workout. You are constantly running around the court, working those arms with every swing and standing in a squat position while waiting for your opponent to serve. It is especially fun in the spring because you’ve been waiting for that snow to melt for so long!

If you weren’t able to stick to your fitness regimen this winter, no problem! Blame it on the bitter cold and don’t beat yourself up over it. Instead, look at this month and the new season as the perfect time to get back on your fitness game, maybe even more determined than before!
