What About The Paleo Diet?

I’m often asked about the Paleo diet in comparison to the 40-30-30 Formula. The Paleo diet, also known as the “Caveman Diet”, recommends eating the way our stone age ancestors ate, primarily wild plants and animals. The diet recommendations include organic meats, poultry, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds to work with your genetics to help you stay lean and energetic. In fact, with that description, it sounds very similar to the Fat Flush Formula in our book, The Formula. However, one of the main differences between the diets is the recommended macro-nutrient ratios of the meal. Paleo meals are generally higher in protein and fat and lower in carbohydrates, but neglect ratios and portion control. The Formula meals are designed to control the hormonal response of a meal with the 40-30-30 ratio of carbohydrates, protein, and fat. Formula meals are also personalized for your inpidual requirements to teach you portion control. However, Paleo food choices can easily be incorporated within the 40-30-30 ratio.

Unfortunately, the Paleo diet also has a huge list of “forbidden foods”. I agree with the Paleo recommendations of avoiding unhealthy sugar, highly processed foods, and trans fats, but organic, low-fat dairy, whole grains, beans and legumes can easily be part of a healthy, balanced diet. When a diet forbids entire food groups, it can easily become far too restrictive and difficult to follow making you and your family less likely to stick with it and more likely to binge. Because the Formula uses the revolutionary 40-30-30 balanced nutrition ratio, no food is really off limits when used in moderation and in the proper ratio.

Although many sweet tasting treats are primarily high in sugary carbohydrates, a Balance Bar® combines the ideal 40-30-30 ratio of carbohydrate, protein and fat to conveniently help satisfy a sweet tooth, keep energy levels steady, and help keep your hunger in check.

In my opinion, the Paleo diet has been tremendously helpful in growing the availability of healthier protein choices like organic, grass-fed and wild meat, fowl, and fish as well as organic fruits and vegetables. But if you choose to combine healthy Paleolithic foods with the 40-30-30 zone principles, you can experience both the genetic and hormonal benefits of a balanced diet.
